jdavis Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I would like to plan a weekday float on the Current in late July. I'm looking for a section of the river that holds plenty of smallmouth. One or two days possibly. Any recomendations? Reliable outfitters?
Al Agnew Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Good smallmouth water starts somewhere around Round Spring, and from there on down there is a good smallie population. You could do Round Spring to Two Rivers, a good two day trip, and use Two Rivers Canoe Rental. Powdermill to Van Buren is a long two days, with several good outfitters in the Van Buren area. Lots of big jetboats below Van Buren, but the fishing is still good, however, I don't know the canoe rentals that operate below Van Buren. I think there are better numbers of fish upstream from Van Buren, but your chances at a big smallie are a little better below.
Kicknbass Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I was on the current over the weekend. Caught lots of small fish. I did have one fish over 16" but the bulk of the fish were between 11" & 13". the best fishing is from daylight untill about 10:00, after that, the jetboats were out in full force. I still caught a few fish during the middle of the day, but fighting the traffic is not my kind of fishing, so we mostly boated, floated, and swam.
