TroutFearMe Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Hey guys and gals anyone heading to Meramec for the catch and release opener on friday.
ohmz138 Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I know of a few people. Looks like rain. Hope they throw in some good ones.
Bman Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 A little rain won't hurt those fish, they're already wet! Lets hope they throw in some good ones. After the past seasons fishing conditions, I wouldn't get the hopes up too high. There's always some nice Smallies in there this time of year. OOPS, I didn't say that. The only good line is a tight line

OOPS, I didn't say that. ya last year I managed to catch a very nice 17in smallie out of there on my first cast with a yellow streamer TrIzzout
TroutFearMe Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 Not to worried about size of the trout I am taking two newcomers to trout fishing with me and figured I would sit the fishing out this year and make sure the noobs gets there chance at a few, I have heard the smallie move into the park but I have never had any luck catching any.
ozark trout fisher Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Won't be there for the opener (will be getting stuff ready for that other opening day this weekend), but Maramec Spring can actually be kind of fun during the winter. Good luck to those who do give it a try.
Flyflinger Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Went down today and was amazed at the diffrence between durring season and out of season. The fishing was great, caught about 15 in about 3 hours. One of them was 21"....wow! I was one of 4 on the water today. There is no limit to what a man can do or how far he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit
ohmz138 Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 We went Saturday. Fishing was pretty good. Fish in every area. Netted a nice male for one guy around 21 inches, here is a big 23inch hen I was able to find. Released unharmed. The fish had some cuts on it's back from an eagle I imagine.

ohmz138 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Good flies, good presentation, and X-ray vision = big fish. Even if there aren't any real big fish around, finding the better fish in any area and targeting that one is a good way of doing it. Your presentation is a huge part of it though. Good job on that 21 incher. We had one male spotted that was pretty close to 10 pounds or better. I had a chance but I brushed him with the rig and he spooked. By far the biggest fish I have seen there.
