Members newbie flyfisherman Posted July 4, 2006 Members Posted July 4, 2006 hello I would like to thank everyone that has made post on the forum because I have been reading the post and have learned alot. I live Northwest of Springfield and have always wanted to learn how to flyfish. I have been down to taney a lot during the day time hours with a spining rod and have really good luck. I figured it was time to start a new hobby and I decided that it would be fly fishing. So I went to Bass Pro and got myself their entry level combo the CV2 and started going down there during the day. I got into a real bind one afternoon when I broke my rod I tryed to take it back to Bass Pro and they would do nothing for me, so not having the money I gave the sport up. Then one day I was eating over at the Quiznos on Battlefield and saw a fishing store to my surprise it was a fly shop. I started talking to the young man and he showed my some entry level rods quite abit more money than what I spent before but after a few trips into the store I bought the Scott A2 5wt and a Lamson Radious #2. I have been back in several times and just realized that the young man that I have been Talking to was the owner. Michael you do a great job with your shop and I wish you all the luck in the world. Michael Has been trying to talk me into night fishing Taney for about a year. I finally decided to go last night what a Night I would have to say that was the most productive thing I have done in a long time. Michael had told me to use Mohair Leech and a Bunny Zonker. The flies were pretty big to what I was used to throwing but they worked . The colors ranged from Black to purple. I would have to say that I caught 25-30 fish from about 1am to 3:30am. Since I was down there by myself I did not fish very many difrent spots mainly fished the rebar hole. I know that Michael has said somthing about doing a night fishing seminar in some previous post I would love to here more on the subject and think that a seminar would be great count me in. Steve
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I agree with the seminar. I think it would be very enjoyable and informative. I too, tried my hand at night fishing Sunday night, but did not have the luck you spoke of. Of course, not knowing too much of what to do I didn't stick with it long. I did miss a couple of strikes using a black wooly bugger. From all the post that I have read it sounds like a lot of fun to fish at night. I hope Michael gets the seminar going. I'll be checking back to see if it happens. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
jdavis Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I would also be interested in a night fishing seminar. I seem to have mixed results at night but love the quite. Hey newbie, Either you have some beginners luck or I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I had a terrible night down there last night. What color and size did were they keyed in on?
Members newbie flyfisherman Posted July 4, 2006 Author Members Posted July 4, 2006 I'm sure it was luck. you know what they say a blind hog will find an acorn every now and then. Michael sold me these flies they were a #10 moehair leech in black and pruple and the bunny zonker was black I tryed a white one and and olive one but the black was best I belive the size on the bunny leechwas a #8 not for sure. I did not catch any big fish they were all around 13-15 inches but a lot of fun. Steve
Micheal Kyle Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Steve, Thanks for the good word, I'm glad that the night fishing was good and worked out. I have talked to my wife and I think that we are going to have night fishing seminar sometime in August. Should be a lot of fun, I hope that everyone will be able to come. Again I'm glad that everything worked out. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
