Members trout_bum Posted November 26, 2010 Members Posted November 26, 2010 We're fishing Crane Creek next week and were wondering of there were any suggestions for flies, fly sizes, and leader and tippet sizes? The water is very low right now and a few rainbows are showing signs of spawning activity. Be very careful were you step if you have to get in the water. There are many places where you can literally jump across the creek right now, so wading can pretty much be avoided. If you do see any rainbows fanning out redds, please leave 'em alone and let them do their thing so we can guarantee the next generation of wild rainbows in Crane Creek. Buzz Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I wonder if this last rain brought the water up at Crane. It sure did around here. Pheasant tails, Hares ears and a variety of midges in 14-16's have always worked for me. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Just to add to this, its not only good practice for conservation but also for angling. In my experiences, you have a better chance at catching trout in small streams if your feet aren't in the water.
