My lovely wife has decided to get me a new rod. She's the best!!

Anyway, I can't decide what kind to get. I have decided to get an 8' 4 wt. model, and have looked at the Winston Vapor. I currenlty have a TFO 8'6" 5 wt. One thing that I am concerned with would be the fast action of the Winston. Another possible rod is the Sage Launch with a med-fast action.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I am a big fan of the rods made in Flippin Arkansas. Click on the link.

There new ultra weave rods are excellent.

I have built rods on these blanks and also have bought them from their factory store.

You might think about a custom rod. I have 2 and love them both. I purchased both of mine from the link below. He'll customize it any way you want.

I'm wondering why a 8' 4 weight? Do you fish small creeks alot? A 8'6" 5 weight is about a "good all around" trout rod as it gets, I would actually go up a notch and get a 9' 7 weight for streamer fishing, white bass, and smallmouth fishing.

After saying that, I will admit that after I had 9' rods in 5,7,and 9 weight the first short rod I bought was a 7'6" 4 weight Sage, but I still consider it kind of a "toy", even though a expensive one.

Thanks everyone, I now have a 9' 4wt. Sage to go with my 8.5 5wt and 9ft 8wt TFO's.

And as luck would have it, I am heading off to the Carson National Forest in New Mexico tomorrow to break it in. The trip is one that was planned earlier but cancelled due to restrictions in forest due to lack of rain. WooHoo!!!
