Fish Food In The Lir?

Have any of you guys ever Sample the river Bottom for What kind of Bugs are in the riverbed?

I checked it Last year,and was surprised by the small amounts found.

Wondering whats missing to make the bugs more plentiful? anybody know?

It's probably all the chicken crap coming in from Arkansas chicken farms that limits the population of bugs. Plus, tailwaters generally don't have much in the way of insects. I personally think we're quite lucky to very rarely see a mayfly.

I have, in the past, heard of state programs to introduce insects into bodies of water. But I don't know what it would take for them to do something like this or if they even would with all the cut backs in funding.

Compared to Ark Tailwaters Beaver,Bull SHoals,Norfolk,Greers ferry,Table Rock/TanneyComo. There is a huge difference

in the number of Sowbugs,snails,Scud/freshwater shrimp,per square yard as compared to the others mentioned.there is an Aquatic worm called Annelids in the Lower Illinois that i haven't seen in the other waters.

But the other waters don't have the poplation of Carp like the LIR does.

I have never Sampled the Upper Illinois,So i am hesitant to blame Chicken houses.The other waters have chicken houses around them as well.

Now I'm curious about the bug population in that creek that a carp festival is held in up around bella Vista.

length = 1-1/4"--1-3/4"

color = transulcent dull yellow tint about the color of expoxy when it yellows

These are tied with mono thread over mono fishing line pieces. Just a little permanent marker for color. The mono gives it a translucent quality that adds to the "ick" factor.

I've actually found a few myself. Also a lot of thin worms such as a san juan.

Ever heard of a Vladi Worm? That fly kills down here.

You showed me the Vladi worm one time. What size are you fishing and are you tight lining or fishing it under an indicator?

Zach your Right, those worms are flat.

When i first seen them, i thought it was a stem of a plant, until i saw them move.
