Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I am wanting to find out how a big bass tournament would work out for stockton lake. Have several weigh in during day and one overall big bass. Not sure when people would want to do this, I would rather do it in the heat of july, but we can go with whatever. I am going to post some questions for you to answer and feel free to say whatever you want to say about doing this, even if you don't want to see it on stockton. let us know what you would be interested in and we will try to get somehtiung together!! should be a great year on the lake. I would make the sugguestion that it be held just about any month except for July. I think that the summer months are quite hard on tournament fish and with an emphasis on big fish, there may be unneeded "fish fatalities". Either way, I would go!!
Thunderin Gobbler Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I went to the weigh-ins for the KVD tournament last year on Table Rock, and I though it was really cool how they did them. Weigh-ins were every hour, but I don't think that would be as necessary on Stockton. Fewer people. Anytime would be good for me, just don't do it on the last Saturday of March. I've already got that weekend, haha.
Members hungup Posted January 8, 2011 Members Posted January 8, 2011 Would like to see two weight locations, one on each arm of the lake...weigh every two hours...put your boat in where ever you want, but must weigh by water only.. no trailering to weigh site..radio station would give start time and information on big fish..7:00am to 3:00pm..Four weigh times two day event...90.00 dollars for one day or 150.00 for two days PER.PERSON...start at your best spot, but no casting till 7:00am each day...enter at weigh locations or pre enter by mail-in date...lye test given randem to winners at end of each day...Top three big bass over all winners MUST be given lye test...Must show photo ID. when weighing fish...Nine chances to win in two days...Heck yes I'd fish it....

I am going to get with some other people to try to help out. the 2 weigh locations might not be a bad idea if we can work it out. I will try to get some info together for everyone. The no July (or august) idea is probably a good one. Nothing worse than seeing a bunch of 5 lb fish floating around. You wouldn't want to do it in the spring either. Those big fish need to spawn without having that pressure on them. They way you keep big fish in the lake is to ensure that the big ones spawn. Those genes being passed along is the most important thing to a lake. I would say do it in october. The fishing is usually good this time of year, plus with cooler temps it will be far easier on the fish .
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 I am talking with some fisheries guys and others to determine what might be the best time. Anytime is good if everyone takes care of the fish, but we all know how that works out. Got a great lake and don't want to be messing that up!! Walcrabass Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I am in agreement that July is not a good month.August either. I believe if you look in the Code book you will find out that it is illegal to cull fish in either of these months while in a tournament. We wouldn't want anybody to be doing anything illegal now would we? Stay away from the spawn months as well because it is a known fact that Bass disturbed while nesting may not return to nest in that same year. October sounds like a great time to not disturb the Campers and Normal Fishermen.( and their families)And while we are talking about not messing up the Big Bass let's get a slot length on Stockton whaddya say? Something like not keeping anything between 14" and 17". Let those Largemouth Spawn.
