Members bent Posted January 15, 2011 Members Posted January 15, 2011 I haven't ever really gone after stripers so my question is . What is your favorite lure for the big guys. I think I will try it this year. Before I do I'd like a general Idea as to what is most effective. Thanks in advance for any comments.
FishinCricket Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 twenty dollar bills work well, hundreds work better... Oh, you said stripers! cricket.c21.com
Members bent Posted January 15, 2011 Author Members Posted January 15, 2011 Had me for a minute. I did misspell that once on another site . Don't think I have lived that down yet. WHEW!
taxidermist Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 At this time seems, live bait is working very well on Norfork. But sometimes artificial work well too. You might want to look at the Lake Norfork Striper club for ideas. http://www.norforkstripers.org/
West Fork Jason Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 You forgot streamers... 4/0 diachi, starting from bottom of fly working towards the top- white Icelandic arctic sheep wool flashabou silver/black flash black northern bucktail b/c southern bucktail is too small and little black dot is a boobie area feather from a road kill northern flicker. (one each side of streamer of course). Don't forget the yellow eyes!!! http://www.WestForkJason.com
Members bent Posted January 16, 2011 Author Members Posted January 16, 2011 By Golly, I don't think I've seen any of those style or head around. Biggest striper spot around me is on the other side of Sand Springs OK. If you made it yourself . You did a bang up good job.
Members ozarkstripers.com Posted February 25, 2011 Members Posted February 25, 2011 most consistant on norfork and bullshoals has been storm swim bait. Trout colored on bullshoals and shad colored on Norfork. Use 4-6 inchers in spring and early summer and 8-10 inchers in late summer and early fall. But if you can catch shad it is the best all around. If you can not catch shad, large shiners work well. Either free line the live baits or balloon them. I know a lot of people also use long bombers and jerk baits after dark thrown towards main lake points after dark.
Members bent Posted February 25, 2011 Author Members Posted February 25, 2011 I'm going to need a bigger reel . Going to make a mold for the big swim baits . I won't be able to do the real fancy colors . I checked out your suggestions and I can get in the ball park of some of the plastics . Worst case situation I'll stop in at Woody's Bait in Sand Springs buy some . Shad around here is No problem there are millions. If you do your own lures throw out some pics . Jason did a wicked job on his. My wife wanted a pair of ear rings like them . I told her only if I held her by the feet and worked her back and forth in the water. The bump dosen't hurt as much now when I comb my hair.
