trizkid Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Two buddies and I had the fever and needed to get out. The weather was looking to be cold and it sure was. We tried something new and stayed at reeds cabins (which was great). We fished the two boulder sections below the park, a few of the wholes at baptist, and a little at tan vat. Fishing was slow all weekend, most fish caught were on size 16-20 zebra midges, nymphs, and brassies various colors of each. My best fish was a very nice male rainbow caught at the first deep log hole at the start of the second set of boulders. Caught him on a glo yarn streamer deal I tie, That always manages to catch a few when all else fails. All in all between fishing in the extreme cold and the down time throwing back a few beers and some dark honey it was a great trip. When I say extreme cold I mean it, any part of our waders that were not in the stream were frozen in seconds during the morning. We all had our reels freeze solid a few times, and frozen guides was a norm. heres a pic of my trips best. enjoy! Sorry if pic is large, try right clicking on it and selecting open link in new tab...internet explorer should resize it for ya. TrIzzout
trizkid Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Sure sucks having to re-tie when its that cold, but having the stream to yourself sure makes up for it. Nice fish. I'm betting that a lot of the fish are in full spawn mode, did you see any redds? I do believe we saw a few. With the water so slow it was pretty easy to stay for the most part out of the water ( and out of the redds that we may or may not have noticed). TrIzzout
Ill Trout Bum Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Congrats on the nice Bow!! We were also there last weekend and I believe we saw your party at Hudson's Corner. I love fishing in the cold. It keeps the masses away. Scott

Idylwilde Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hudsons Corner? Iv never heard that before. What part of the stream are you talking about. I think he is talking about the first hole below the spring where the river makes the first bend and has the rock high bank and just below Crabtree creek. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.

Hudon's corer is in the park. It's the first access to the fly only area from the hatchery road side. It's where the old concrete chunks with rebar sticking out used to line the bank. We called it the concrete hole. Rebar makes a good anchor for a stringer. I'm not sure there's a crabtree creek, or any creek between hudsons and the spring.

It is the hole right before the stream turns along the high bluff area known as "the chutes." Scott
