Snow and homework have got me thinking about spring, and wondering about new fishing opportunities. So I had a few questions

The first is if anyone ever fishes the creeks in and around James A. Reed. I've seen them on the MDC maps but I just don't know if they hold any fish, bluegills or sunfish would do for me.

The second is if the creek right by bass pro in Independence is public or private.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know about the creek near Bass Pro, but I can share a conversation I had with a Bass Pro employee a month or so ago regarding the lake. He told me it was property of the City of Independence. According to him they stocked it a little over 3 years ago and there was supposed to be no fishing allowed for a period of 3 years. He said he saw fishing going on however so there was apparently no enforcement. He mentioned that there are surely some nice channel cat in there now, and likely other species of fish as well. It would be prudent to contact the City of Independence, maybe the Parks Dept, to ask before you fish.

looks like an exploratory trip could be in your future. sometimes that's half the fun. don't know how comfortable i'd feel fishing any of the creeks or rivers within the city limits. just too darn dirty for me. there are some stretches of the little blue right off 40 highway that look promising, but would be afraid the coating on my line would come off. lack of CLEAR, moving water is one thing that frustrates me about this area. there are several outstanding stillwater options though, especially if you have a float tube or other portable watercraft. some of the best bluegill and redear fishing i've ever had was at lone jack lake. i like the reed area, but they need to start allowing the use of float tubes. you can p.m. me here for some other stillwater options if you'd like, but i don't really have anything top secret. mostly fish the MDC managed water in the area and do quite well on most of them.

I appreciate the replies. I get frustrated with the lack of clear water available as well, in fact I don't know of an area that does have clear water. I'm looking into a little inflatable pontoon boat to haul around. I agree about the James A Reed note, they do need to allow small portable crafts.

As for the clean water, I have my doubts as well. I hear about people fishing the little blue and two things come into mind, contaminents and the dangerous areas around that river. I'm not really big on being robbed :) I also hear about a few people wading in the Blue, and to me that is nuts. That river has more than its share of problems, one bing water quality.

I am looking forward to take an exploratory trip in KC, just wanting to see if anyone else has explored these creeks.

Mark, if I get any info on that creek by basspro I'll post it.

Where do you access it at? Not looking to steal your spot, and in all honesty I'm really going for either panfish or carp on the fly rod. I appreciate any help

That's pretty awesome about the C&R regs. I think that I'll give them a call @ Bass Pro and post what they say.

Josh, I'll have to check into that. Fly rodding for carp sounds really good right now, but of course anything sounds good with the way this winter was.

I have tried fishing it on the James A Reed areas, there were lots of bass, and some catfish, bluegills, and crappie. Nothing special size wise but it's still a lot of fun.
