Members hawgslayer
I have heard that the MDC is going to quite stocking Roaring River because the spring is so low. If anyone knows if this is true please let me know. If fishins a sport, then I'm an athlete.
Steve Smith
I was told the last week of June that the spring was down to less than 4 million gallons a day, which is not enough to maintain the hatchery. They were proposing to move the fish to Taneycomo's hatchery, but we had about just enough rain that both chutes were releasing water last week. However, the flow is back down again as it has been dry ever since. I'd say not much over 4 million at best. Maybe Tim Homesley has heard something, and the consequences. gonefishin
This kindof sounded off the wall to me but...... I heard that they arent going to stock anymore trout in Taney because the lower half is getting to warm so the trout are all crowding into the upper half of the lake. ??? I would rather be fishin'. Roaring River Veteran
Hi all, The rumors that you have heard about RR have been going around for a while now and there was acutally an article in the local cassville paper last week addressing the rumors. The article said that they were just that, 'rumors' That they do trade fish with other hatcheries on a regular basis and that they would continue to keep trout at the RR hatchery. As far as water levels go. The river is low but not any lower than usual for this time of year. In fact I think that it is in pretty good shape for July. I fished it last week and it is clear but there is still a decent amount of water. I believe that it is still higher than it was two months ago when it was down to about 4 million gallons a day. I know that since then we received a large amount of rain and the spring output actually jumped up to between 80 and 100 million gallons a day. They have a pump in the river that will pump water back into the spring pool if needed to keep enough water to support the fish in the hatchery. They also changed the water feed to the hatchery this past winter so that the hatchery wouldn't be affected by spring output as much. Roaring River Veteran
Hi all, I got home from work and found the paper, and re-read the article and the hatchery manager stated that the spring is currently at 8 million gallons a day. It does normally average 20 million gallons a day but in all of my years I have never seen it at 20 million in July. Tightline
Hello all,I fished RR last fri,sat and sunday early, and it was as low as i have seen it in a long time and there were lots of fishermen complaining about how few fish they were stocking. If they put 1800 in there for saturday you couldn't tell it by me! Wayne SW/MO
I was there Sun-Wed. The river is lower than I've seen, but I'm not a constant visitor in the Summer. There's a lot of pressure and almost all the Trout can be seen, and see. It did rain heavily on Monday, hard on Tues and more that night without any real runoff, so most went into the aquifer and I would imagine that much of it will come out of the springs. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members hawgslayer
I was fishing today at RR and the fish were really bitin hard. I mostly used a white salmon egg. And i also hooked a 5 pounder at least but he broke off. Use 2 pound line at the least because the water is super clear If fishins a sport, then I'm an athlete. timsfly
The river is fishing well, I fished for an hour and half yesterday, caught 15 trout, all on a green/grizzly # 16 ant, caught a few on a # 14, 7X frog hair made all the difference, the fish would only chase the fly when I had 6X on for the tippet, and I did better when fishing a 12' leader.
