Members Sowbug Posted July 17, 2006 Members Posted July 17, 2006 I was wondering if anyone lives in the area of Mountain View, AR. I am looking at buying some land there for a weekend/retirement spot and would like to know how the fly fishing is in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
vonreed Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I have a freind who lives 15 minutes from Mountain View right on the White River. There is a huge bottom right along the river that has been divided up into small acreages. I think they paid around 15 thousand an acre though for theirs.
Members Sowbug Posted July 18, 2006 Author Members Posted July 18, 2006 Do you fish down that way any at all, vonreed? If so is it pretty good fishing?
vonreed Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 sorry sowbug but I don't do much fishing for trout. I like flyfishing for the whites but have never gotten into it with the trout, they're just too hard to catch consistently with limited time. He's located below the main trout fishing area, about a mile from the dam, but he still manages to catch quite a few below the spillway and downstream a ways.
RiverRunner Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I have fished this stretch some. Boswell Shoals can be a good area along with the C&R area near Mt. Olive. A lot of times the water will be high around the clock due to releases from Norfork & Bull Shoals combined, but the water can be low for extended periods in the fall & winter. The area from Boswell down to the bridge at Sylamore gets hammered pretty good, but few people really fly-fish it. At times, if the generators are turned off for more than a day in hot weather, water temps can rise to the mid 70's, which seems to make the fish go to the deep holes to look for cooler water. Also, the creek mouths, esp. Piney and Sylamore are good places to catch Smallmouth & Kentuckies at times. I used to fish this area more, but now I concentrate my efforts between Norfork and Calico Rock. It seems to get a little less pressure.
Members Sowbug Posted July 20, 2006 Author Members Posted July 20, 2006 Thanks RiverRunner...all the info I can gather is helpful in making a decision on where to look for a weekend/retirement spot of land. Thanks again, M.L.
