mzrealfish Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Good evening, My group is coming down this weekend. I know the river is up right now, but we are floating and fishing regardless. We are putting on Friday morning and scheduled to float from Riddle to Jerome on Sunday. Any thoughts, suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark
bikehikefish Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Maybe I'm just a lousy fisherman, but when the Gasconade is as high as it is now, I don't even bother to fish it. Except maybe in summer when the catfish are biting. And be careful, it is a big river and can be dangerous at high flows. I wouldn't be comfortable on it when the guage is over 4 ft at Jerome.
Brian Jones Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 There are a couple of tricky spots below Riddle Bridge. One is at Portuguese (sp?) Point and the other is probably 45 minutes or an hour (guesstimate) below the Point. The point is a rocky ledge/falls and the other spot is a riffle that is fairly wide but has several logs and wads in it that seem to run perpendicular to the current. I have not canoed this water but have fished through this area several times out of my jet boat. Once you get below Hwy 28 bridge the river gets wide and you should have no trouble at all. I would imagine that if the weather is nice you may encounter some big boat traffic. The Gator/Shoalrunner crowd can only run above Jerome in the spring time or other periods of high water and they tend to make the most of it when they get these conditions.
