RSBreth Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Went out a week or so ago and fished and didnt have any luck. anyone having luck if so what are you using? I was doing good with a white spinnerbait - but that was before all the rain, might be even better now.
Jack Jones Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 What size spinnerbait were you using? Double or single blade? I've tried Springfield Lake many times from kayak and shore. I've thrown Beetlespins, grubs, wooly worms, and cranks. Never got a darn thing. Only time I caught anything was on worms and then it was gills and a catfish. I'd love to know the secret to cracking this lake and where they're all hiding since it is the closest to me and gas is through the roof. What about maybe a shaky head with a 6in worm? Good old Texas rig? Tips and tricks welcome..... "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
Members springfieldFlyFisher Posted April 12, 2011 Members Posted April 12, 2011 We have been having most of our luck on white and pumpkin flukes rigged weightless. Haven't been catching a bunch but thats what they came on. Heard from a friend that they are moving up into the shallower parts up on the james arm. Hope this help. I might be going out today after work...I'll let you know if we do any good.
Patrick M Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 Last year i caught some nice ones on crank baits near the bluffs east of the boat house. I've only had luck with crankbaits. I would post some pictures but i dont know how to.
RSBreth Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I was using a compact custom 3/8-ounce tandem Oklahoma/Willow. It's basically white, the OK blade is gold and the willow silver. Just fishing around shallow cover. That's about as specific as I can get without the internet police crying "foul".
timsfly Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I fished springfield lake this morning, caught a few crappie, lots of bluegill and a few small sized bass, caught all mine on the fly rod, used a chartruse woolybugger and a chartruse 1/80th jig for most of the fish, caught few of the gills on a small popper on top. Where you bank fishing, Tim? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
