Guest Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 We stayed at the family house this weekend. My mother's 60th birthday was celecrated in fine fashion. Cookouts, paddlin boatin, and snoozin... we didn't have the best weather conditions but made the most of them. Hit the water about 2pm saturday and idled around the lake. Noticed there was a good bit of stained water and some muddy water. This caught me off guard. We pulled up to the fence row down by the dam and start hammering crappie. They were suspended around those cedar posts. My wife and I catch about 15 crappie in an hour. She caught a 13" beast on a swimmin minnow (blue/clear) 1/16oz jighead. (thanks Phil! my wife has a new bag of swimmin minnows) Its funny how that happens, LOL There were not as many visible spawning bass anywhere except the boat dock. So, I backed off the bank today and fished 5-12' deep with a texas rigged super hog. This was the ticket as I boated about 15-20 bass with the avaerage fish about 14" It's been 5 years since I seriously fished this lake. Kinda sad to see my favorite lily pad field with few stalks. Its been really silted in from the major flooding the past few years. In fact all the other coves have really gotten shallow and muddy bottoms. This could be why the bass are bedding more on the mainlake or mid-cove areas instead of the backs.
