timsfly Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 We are really experencing some nice fishing the past few weeks at Roaring River state park, the dry fly fishing is about as good as it gets around here, lots of caddis hatching everyday, blue wing olives nearly everyday and tricos in the morning and with the warming weather the ants and beetles are really working well also, good fishing all day long with green/grizzly cracklebacks, and small para adams will work all day as well. Fishing with marabou and micro jigs has been great also, the clear water makes for some real easy sight fishing, I left work a bit early yesterday and in about an hour I had 6 nice trout caught and released and several SDR's, woolybuggers are still working all day long, I use olive and black most of the time, smaller buggers work better for me in the afternoon, and I'll use the bigger buggers in the morning, fishing the jigs the best colors have been olive, black/yellow, white, ginger, and dk brown. Rooster tails are still good early in the morning,(30 minute wonders) Small crankbaits really work well also right not, baits that are 3" and smaller usually work the best. Small gold spoons, 1"-1 1/4" in length and about 1/8th of an ounce work well, I like copper or gold spoons myself. The water is very clear right now so I would suggest 2 or 3 lb line, I very seldomly use 4 or 6 lb line unless the water is dirty. Plastic worms are really good all day long, best colors are white, orange, orange/white, cheese yellow and pink, if you are using the plastic eggs, then white, hatch brown, flo. yellow and orange are your best choices. If you are fishing in zone 3 then nightcrawlers, corn, and powerbait pastes are good.
