I was wondering if it is possible to float Cane Bluff to Greer? And if it is, does anybody fish this stretch? I think most of the trout are below the bridge, what about smallies above the bridge?

Cane Bluff to Greer is great smallmouth water. You can still float there this year for another week or so unless we get another good rain which would extend that time frame. You will drag a couple times and may have to pull through 1 or 2 small shoals, but you can do it. There are smallies evrywhere in the river, even in the Blue Ribbon area from Greer to Turner. The best reports are coming from whitten down to 142 lately for smallies. We will have a detailed smallie report tomarrow as Ryan, my business partner, is doing a 2 day smallmouth guided trip covering Whitten to 142 right now. Look for the report tomarrow.

Did this trip last Sat. didn’t drag canoe any. Put on 1pm and pulled into Greers about 8pm (stop and rest/fish lots). Didn’t see any other human beings on the river. Having my two young boys (9 & 6) with me couldn’t fish it hard, but did manage to catch about 10 smallmouth,(all small ones) my 6yr old caught his first fish of his life (bigger than any of the ones I caught) then turned around and caught another on his next cast.

After doing this section I would recommend blowing by the first 4miles and spend more time along the later 4 miles, it’s much nicer.

...I agree with Brian...Cane Bluff to Greer is great smallmouth water...Thomasville to Greer is great smallmouth and goggle eye water...but impossible to float at this time of the year...yet, the fish are still there if one can get to them...the trout fishing from Greer to Whiten is the best I have found!!!...congrats to your son on his first fish!!!...no better place to catch it!!!
