Andrew324 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 The James River is quite high. Anyone been down to Crane to see what its like? I'm curious to drive out today to check it out. Andrew Nelson Outdoor Adventures Graduate Assistant Campus Recreation Missouri State University
Andrew324 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Went out there today. HERE IS THE DAMAGE Any thoughts on how this will affect the stream and fish? Andrew Nelson Outdoor Adventures Graduate Assistant Campus Recreation Missouri State University
Brian K. Shaffer Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I think it will have more affect on the river than the fish. They have been in there since 1882 ya know. Sure would like to see those pics Andrew. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Andrew324 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 The park was closed or else I would have got pictures. I'm guessing the water got up to the swing sets. I think your right Brian. I saw several fish actually taking stuff off the top. The stream will change, but I doubt the fish move that much. Probably just swim to the side. I hope everyone is ok that is affected by this flood. I have been blessed, Topeka hasn't had much rain at all. Brian K. Shaffer Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Holy good gravy!!! That is much worse than I was picturing in my mind. Wow. The stream will need some work to recover from that flood, no doubt. I still feel the fish will be OK.. and the underground spots will be recharged for many more days to come. Members trout_bum Posted April 27, 2011 Members Posted April 27, 2011 Can't wait to see what the stream will look like when the water gets back to normal. Corey Dodson "Trout everywhere tremble at the mention of my name."
Andrew324 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Yeah the two fallen trees that used to span middle of the lower wire road access were moved significantly. I would guess the creek is up around 5 or 6 feet. And judging by the grass it probably peaked at ten or dare I say fifteen feet. It will be a whole new creek in a few weeks. It was really ironic because a week ago I had the best night on Crane. I caught 5 fish in 5 consecutive casts right at dusk, it was perfect. Too dark to take pictures of the fish though, they were nice sized males. Dang old camera phones. The above pictures were taken on my girlfriends polaroid digital.
