Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 lake temp was back into the low 60's around twin bridges this evening. I didn't get on the lake until about 5, had some people that were actually slower than me... The water coming out of the sac at son's creek is still pretty stained. visability up around birch is only 6-8 inches, but the crappie bite was going good up there for a while this afternoon. Same in sons creek, but lots of crappie are being caught suspended in 15 foot of water, like other walleye fisherman today, we picked some up on night crawlers. You will have to put in some work, but the crappie are being caught in the sons creek arm anyplace from the shallows down to 20 foot of water. the fish out deeper were mostly males today, but we had some nice fish for the short time we were out. Walleye are biting great. Lots of smaller fish, but also lots of 16" walleye. We had 3 keepers this evening in the first hour on jigs and crawlers in 18 foot of water. they haven't really hit the points hard yet, so try fishing the inside of the points. towards the backs of the coves, might get you some bigger fish. I think everything we caught this evening on points were shorts. 1/8 to 1/4 oz jigs and you can tip them with a crawler, or just fish a jig, both seem to be working. Bass are hitting the bushes, so flip them jigs and spinnerbaits along the flooded brush on secondary points to the backs of the creeks and coves. i haven't had any huge females, and some of them up the rivers seem to have spawned out already. The main lake fish still have a little time left. The catfish were going nuts in the backs of the creeks where the water was coming in. If you like to catfish, wait until the rain stops, then go all the way to the back of the creeks, put on a night crawler, and hang on. The best places to go are some of the smaller creeks that flow into the lake, like way back in mutton, greaser, googer, something like that and get back where the water is visabily moving. It won't be very wide, and maybe only 5 or 6 foot deep, but that will cover up a pretty big catfish. This bite almost always works after a good rain, and we look to have more moving in this weekend. Walcrabass Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Thanks for the info. I am going this afternoon trying to beat the rain before tonight. I assume that the Crappie are in the arm of the creek and not in the coves or pockets. If they are in the coves ( Greaser and others) please let me know. I've pretty much missed the Crappie fishing this year with work, cold rain, and Spring Football. Any help is appreciated. Is the water clearing up or getting worse since your May 4 fishing report?
