Members FlyFishingFool32 Posted July 30, 2006 Members Posted July 30, 2006 This weekend will be my first time fishing at bennet springs I was woundering if you guys could give me a couple of spots in the park that you like to fish with dry flies and other spots that are good for marabous and mini jigs. I would greatly appreciate some feedback.
Members Flyfishing Buddha Posted July 30, 2006 Members Posted July 30, 2006 Well for the dries I would start at the spring and work down to the second handicapped access. Small(18 and smaller) Renegades and cracklebacks. In the evening a fair hatch of pale evening duns comes on about 5:00 or so. As far as the maribous and mini jigs, from the top of the falls into the big pool down to the whistle bridge. Pay close attention to the outlet area from the hatchery in zone 2. The black and yellow, honey and any white/red/pink combination should work. Try the "John Deere or Bedspread mini jigs. For an excellent report on the fishing go to "www.missouritrout.com/weavers They give reports twice a week and what they call their "A" List of what worked best. What weekend are you gonna be down. I and my family are going down on 08-05to 08-07.
Members FlyFishingFool32 Posted July 30, 2006 Author Members Posted July 30, 2006 Thank you for your input and i will check out that website. That is the weekend we are going down as well. My dad uncle and couisen and i are going down.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 The stretch from the Rock Bridge to the hatchery outlet can be good for topwaters. You also might check with Ed at Larry's, he spends a lot of time fishing drys. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Kayser Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 From the Holland Dam all the way to the whistle bridge is good for marabou jigs. In the faster, shallower water, you will want to fish minijigs shallow, behind rocks and whatever else offers a current break. I really havent fished dries enough @ Bennett to tell you where to do it. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
