Members Jeff Hearn Posted May 17, 2011 Members Posted May 17, 2011 The Green's are good folks and have a super nice place.......Stayed there with Reel Recovery last OCT......The high water may be the issue Jeff Hearn me and a buddy go up each year to the area and stay at a cabin and trout fish a few days. Zack Hoyt Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I second Jeff's response. It is a very nice place to stay and the owners are top notch. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Members dantep Posted May 18, 2011 Author Members Posted May 18, 2011 Thanks for the responses. Will not be going till late July, so hopefully water will be lower. Is the area around the lodge just as good as other areas around for trout fishing or should I venture up or down a little for better fishing? Thanks again for the help. Will book the room as soon as I wake up from working the midnight shift.
taxidermist Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I fish the are both up river and down river from Cedarwoods and its just fine. I like it more because of fewer people most times. Rapalas work well gold and sometimes silver. cd 3 if the water is low de-5 or 7 if the water is high. With two units on line you can get all the way to Cotter, drift back and it can take a good part of the day, skipping the Catch and release area. Or you can go down river past the Ranchette ramp and drift for miles, Buffalo Shoals is the largest drop on White River, under low water it can be tricky but with two units on there is zero problems. If you go down below Buffalo river and fish the south bank you can have a blast with smallmouth bass in the heat of the summer!!! Same lures!
Members dantep Posted May 20, 2011 Author Members Posted May 20, 2011 Hey taxidermist, I usually use little cleos (small spoons) for trout, do those work in this area also for trout? cotterboy2007 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Invest in some jerkbaits. Check old 2007 and 2008 threads forwhat to look for. Rogues and rapalas will do. Gonna be high water every afternoon in the summer. Some of the best fishing from footer to where you will be. I would also pinch thebarbs down on a lure or two and fish inside the c&r area.
taxidermist Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I dont like little cleos. I just dont catch enough fish on them. If the water is low Cd-3 in sivler and black, or gold and black. Also there is a clear one with a bit of purple pearl everyyone is calling it glass rap. I have not found one yet. it has rattles and should be a killer. http://www.rapala.com/products/lures/glass_shad_rap/ Rogues in Silver, blue back or even the silver fading into a blue back with gold sides is good when worked slow. I use suspending and yes I have caught a darn good share of larger fish on them. I would run up to the C&R area and fish back to the dock from about 4pm until dark!
Members dantep Posted July 19, 2011 Author Members Posted July 19, 2011 Hey, thanks for all the help so far, when I got the tackle suggested. Will be there this sat and sun. to fish. Was wondering how the fishing is going down there? Any spots better than others right now? Thanks again for the help,
rps Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Good advice above. If you must have a cast and reel back lure, in-line spinners work well in fast water. Of course with high water you won't see riffles at Redbud Shoals (above Rim Shoals trophy area and below Cotter) or at Ranchette. I am partial to gold and to pink. BTW, my favorite stretch of the river is Cotter to Ranchette. White Hole and Sportsman Hole are good, especially for browns, but I've always caught larger bows below Cotter.
