Members gardyloo Posted May 20, 2011 Members Posted May 20, 2011 I am supposed to be camping and fishing on the Beaver Tailwater over Memorial weekend. I called the booth and they said they were open; however I have read and seen otherwise. Was the lady at the booth mistaken about camping and fishing below the dam? Is fishing restricted to float fishing because of the water level? The significant other will be mad as all get out if we show up next Friday and the park is closed.
Zack Hoyt Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I had heard all the camping was closed. The Dam Access and Bathouse Walkins were closed due to cleanup efforts. There is no wade fishing at all. It is about 12ft above normal level. We are expecting some serious rainfall this weekend, and if this occurs, the floodgates will need to be opened as well as some pretty heavy generation. It is best to call the Dam Store to get information about the levels, fishin, and campgrounds being opened. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Zack Hoyt Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 The boat ramp is opened and the Parker Bottom campgrounds. The rest of the campgrounds are closed. The COE has issued a warning that flood releases may be necessary. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions

I see Just Fishin' Guides response, and there's a fine website available there with lots of information by knowledgeable folks. I'll also suggest that you google flyflinger, and read thru his (Scott Branyan's) river report for Beaver Tailwaters. Also a knowledgeable guide, he puts a lot of effort into maintaining a very up-to-date page. I know that I very much appreciate the efforts of both of these outfits! Sorry that my post is probably too late to help ya any for this trip though. Hope ya had a fine fishing trip! If they bit all the time they'd call it catching....instead of fishing...
