Nice colors to him. What's that lure in his mouth?

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

In many parts of Missouri the Green Sunfish is known as the Black Perch. I've heard green sunfish called black perch all my life and in fact didn't learn they were green perch until I was an adult. I have heard people call them bluegill, but generally by people who seldom fish and make a guess at what they are.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Thought black perch were warmouth? Or are those called goggle eye where rock bass don't live?

I don't know if there is a colloquial name for Warmouth, but Warmouth is the official name of another sunfish that is very similar to goggle eyes and Ozark bass. To the best of my knowledge they only exist in the flatland of SE Missouri.

Yeah, I know. I've caught warmouth here in IL, but also got some out of Lake of the Ozarks once. Green sunnies are pretty much everywhere, and goggle eye are in almost all (if not all) Ozark streams. I'm just curious what a "black perch" actually is, because I've heard people call both greenies and warmouth by that name.

I've heard folks call greenies black perch, and I've caught a few warmouth in the Marmaton River, in the upper Osage river drainage.

FT- that black spot on the dorsal makes me think yours is a bluegill x green sunfish hybrid. Cool fish.
