vonreed Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I went down to Powersite today out of boredom. I Got down there just a hair before 8 o clock. There were 3 guys sitting on the dam wall catching drum left and right. There's no telling how many they caught. There is hardly any room anywhere to fish without strong current. I Finally found a tolerable spot and fished for an hour with no bites using sliders, roostertails, and rogues. Finally about 9:30 i went to lift my rogue out of the water and a fish hit it. It took off like a rocket. I Finally got it in and it ended up being a 25 inch walleye. That was super. I had 1 other walleye on and lost it. Also lost a big big fish that I Never saw. The guys beside me caught a white bass and drum, plus caught about a 4 pound catfish using shad for bait. The water was still pretty stained with maybe a foot of clarity.
emjay Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Thanks for the report vonreed. I've been wanting to come down and see how the water level is sitting.
vonreed Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 I went down again tonight. I heard the water was supposed to be turned off at Tablerock. I got down there around 7:30 and fished till dark without even a bite. I was using leftover shad from other people on one pole and lures on my other pole while waiting. After it got dark it turned on. I left at 10:30 with 1 huge crappie, 5 whitebass with eggs in them and a limit of walleye! Plus I had a couple others get off close to the bank. The calmer water has the fish turned on again. I hope I can get up in a couple hours and get down there before light to do it all over again. Good luck.
emjay Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Dang, nice! Looks like I'm gonna take a day to come down and try this place again. Alot closer to home.
vonreed Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 It was strange, last night when I was cleaning the fish. The white bass had shad in their stomachs, which is what I expected. But the walleye had some kind of a chub minnows in their bellies. I'd thought they would be full of shad, but none of the walleye had 1 shad.
