Members frank1025 Posted August 3, 2006 Members Posted August 3, 2006 Hi, I will be heading down to the tan-tar-a-resort are of the lake around sept 5th or so. I want to do some crappie fishing but do not know the lake very well. Anyone with some locations in that area and or other fishing tips?? Thanks
Thom Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Good luck the crappie fishing has been slow there. On the lake near the state park marina crappie beds are located generally straight out from the sycamore trees. Near the docks as you travel towards the west each dock usually have beds but this time of the year I have had the best luck deep off the bluffs. If you have a fish locater look for structure along the bluffs and try trolling minnow tipped jigs. You gennerally pick us one or two and then have to move to anothe area. Kayser Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I just got back from the lake. Fishing is decent, but you need to fish SLOW. Keep the lure (or bait) as steady as possible. Fish minnows 12-21' deep around the shaded side of docks until you find fish. The water needs to be from 25'-60' deep, enough for there to be a thermocline for the fish to lay in. Using a 1/8 oz yellow/orange jighead with a minnow hooked through the eyes will help you to keep in better contact with your minnow and detect more subtle strikes. Lot of fish, but a decent portion are too small from noon on. Rob. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
