Members Fishinokie1 Posted June 4, 2011 Members Posted June 4, 2011 I have been out to the park area a couple of times a few weeks ago, but have not been since this warm weather rolled in. I did find some nice gills, hand size, right up in the rocks. Anyone having any luck or been out lately? I noticed the pads are popping up around the park. If you teach your kids to fish, your wife will let you go more often.....
Jack Jones Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Last time I was there was last weekend. It was tough fishing. If I get a chance, I may head there in the evening tonight. We'll see. There is the bull riding deal this weekend so it's guaranteed to be packed with no where to park. vonreed Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Me and my son went to my favorite fishing hole yesterday on the Finley to catch some goggle eye and catfish and the spot had completely changed after this last flood. It's been the same forever. We didn't do too well compared to normal. Then 3 teenage kids came through and walked right through where we were fishing to top it off, lol. If I'd been their age there would have been a fight. My son's 11 and couldn't believe it, lol. We ended up catching 2 goggle eye 5 cats and a dozen smallmouth.

Park over on the West side by the old Mill and launch from under the bridge if the park ramp is blocked. It's what I do. Back to the question at hand - I was fishing about halfway down from Ozark near Nixa last week - good fishing. Water's up, but fish are hitting - well, everything.

At least your son recognizes the rudeness of those boys and when he gets to be their age, he will be able to show others how to respect other fisherman and the outdoors. It just goes to show not everyone is taught how to respect another person's space while fishing. I had the same thing happen when I took my 8 yr old girl out to the docks on Lake Springfield. We had a dock to ourselves and someone decided to walk onto our dock and start fishing. When you have kids around, you find yourself being "nicer" to those who intrude. I asked "politely" and they moved on. Just amazes me though how many people don't get it...... It is one of those " here's your sign" moments. I did not know the finley had many cats in it. Do you ever catch them up by the park? If you teach your kids to fish, your wife will let you go more often.....
OzarkFishman Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Took the yak to the park yesterday for a few hours. Started out with a small creature bait and then switched to a smaller plastic. Ended the trip with 6 fish: 2 bluegill, 2 bass, 1 crappie and 1 green sunfish. Nothing big, but I wasn't after size. Taking the family (wife, 3 year old boy and 7 month old boy) to the park tonight. My boy wants to catch fish on his Cars pole.

Never caught one on a Cars pole, but I have pulled in a few out of the park on a Barbie pole. And the answer is " yes".... we do have the matching tackle box too hehe . Love watching them little squirts catching fish on those things. If you teach your kids to fish, your wife will let you go more often.....
OzarkFishman Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 We ended up with 7 fish and the coolest thing is my 3 year old caught HIS first official fish (he cast and reeled it in with no help). The bluegill were cruising real shallow and we saw 2 monster green sunfish. Also saw some decent bass real shallow cruising. Fun night, OzarkFishman

Do you ever catch them up by the park? I try to avoid the crowd as much as possible. We were downstream from Riverdale though. There's lots of catfish in the finley. You just gotta find the spots that are better than others.
Jack Jones Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Went down there tonight after 8. I pitched a Rebel Bumblebug which got taken and pulled in to the pads. Guess I should have had stronger line/bigger pole because whatever took it snapped it. I switched to a larger sized black beetle-spin. I took in quite a few google-eye on that and one little sunny. Saw plenty of long shadows in the water though. Shame none were hungry. "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
