How's the water on the upper james, say around Crighton, or Southwood, it was swift last time I was there, anybody catching anything there?

are you talking the ramp there at southwood? if you are i went out tuesday and wednesday on lake springfield and caught one. i saw another gentleman caught a 5 and half pound bass on top water. i myself am trying to learn to fish plastics and top water along with jigs. i saw alot of areas where some big fish moved in the make lake springfield area around vistor center area. the water was not very swift those days. i have a small trolling motor and it did great with my boat.

Question - I know the limit on Lake Springfield is either 6 or 7hp. I have a 40hp on my boat, can I still be on the water and not use the motor? Also, where does the regulation for the lower hp start? I can run up in the river east of Hwy 65?

"Lake Springfield is a shallow lake, and boats are limited to 6 HP motors or less." http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Applications/MOATLAS/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=9410
