Was reviewing my map of the James today, and peeking at Google Maps. Is there an access point near the Rivercut area? What about near 160/AA? I know there is nothing official, but I was wondering if you could slip a yak in, or simply bank/wade fish. I don't care to trespass or cause issues.

I may drive around that way if I get a chance today, just to see the area, but I would welcome anyone's experiences there.

You can turn on AA and immediatly turn right, don't know the roads name, and take it to an area to park and access the river.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Yeah, I went down there today. You ever put a yak in there Wayne? Looks like it'd be a bit rough to try. I'm not the biggest fan of trudging through the overgrowth. Been bit my too many snakes, and had too many ticks in my day.

No I haven't. I'm too old to even wrestle my light crafts through the brush any more.

There's several places to launch a canoe or kayak on that stretch of river. One is at 160 hwy on either side of the road. The East side is better than the West side though. Another is down around Rivercut but is difficult because of no parking. Then downstream from there is a bridge that I forget the name of that is at the end of A hwy. Then another bridge downstream from there that you can get to but directions are difficult kinda. Go down 14hwy to M then take a right at the light. Then go approx. 1 mile and take a left of I think the second Left and follow that till you reach the river. It may be the first left though, I cant remember. Someone else can give better directions I'm sure.

The name of the road is Union chapel, which turns into Nelson Mill Rd.

How is that Nelson Mill road bridge? Easy to access or do you have to blaze a trail?

Also, how is the water going upstream - is this a very shallow section?

I'll answer my own questions, I went to the bridge Sat morning. It is a shallow section under the bridge but has a good size pool above it. Caught plenty of goggle eyes on a floating worm, letting it sink slowly and twitching it. Also got a few bass on a small white spinnerbait. Nothing going on crankbaits though. Several gar in this area too. Seems like a lot of gar north of Shelvin, like they've taken over.

Only other issue is the annoyance of cows in this section
