Jdecoudres Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 What hooks are you guys using to tie the small woolly buggers.
flytyer57 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 TMC 5262 all they way down to size 14. And a size 14 woolybugger is a small little fly. No sense tying them any smaller. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
flytyer57 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I might add that for smallmouth flies, I tie my buggers on streamer hooks. TMC 300 size 12 to size 2 and TMC 9395 Size 10 to size 4. The only real difference between these two hooks are the eyes. TMC 300's have straight eyes while the TMC 9395's have down eyes. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Lshack2 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I have been doing some smallmouth fishing with a fly rod this year with all the high water on the trout streams. What color woolybugger do you like for the smallies? Ive tied some crazy craws with sililegs in tan and olive and used some clousers left over from white bass fishing in olive / white and chart / white. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Okieflyfisher53 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Brown woolies have worked well for me. Brown and olive are my two main colors for smallies. Steve
