Members kc outdoorsman Posted June 13, 2011 Members Posted June 13, 2011 When is the best time to come fish below Bull Shoals dam? I am pretty versed at fishing Taneycomo and lots of places but have never fished below Bull Shoals dam (lots of times above it). Anything special we need for tackle? What size line? We don't fly fish. I have my own boat too. Where is the best area to launch ?
rps Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 What kind of boat makes a difference to the answer. A river boat by Shawnee or one of the others or a drift boat makes the answer anytime. Any other boat means you need to check flows before you try to put in. I assume BSD is still putting out much water so right now should be good for any safe powered craft. WARNING! When they are at all or near all generators, the volume of water is very powerful. Talk with locals about safety issues before you launch. Medium spinning rod with a good drag spinning reel spooled with 4 or 6# test will cover 99% of your needs. I like to fish 4 and 6 inch suspending jerk baits for browns; small brown, black, or green jigs and little cleos for rainbow. I also riffle fish with in line spinners. Be sure you know and obey the regs about trophy areas. Have a great time.
Members kc outdoorsman Posted June 13, 2011 Author Members Posted June 13, 2011 Currently I am running a 1660 aluminum w a 35hp. I use this at Taneycomo and lots of rivers, lakes, places. Sounds like similar fishing techniques as Taney? When is the best time to come- low or high waters, early or late in the day
rps Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 The fishery is so good, you need to come when you can during the high water. PM Hotdawg fore info re high water, your boat, and put in places he would recommend.
