DChance Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Not only is the boat traffic bad, AND it tears up your boat (yep new chip out of the boat from waves and dock), but I have been having a heck of a time locating fish on that lake. Went today, postspawn, heavy generation, pretty predictable pattern (or so I thought). I jumped main lake points all day long. Bluff points, long flat points, channel points, with little success. Couldn't get bit on a DD22, only dinks on a spook, best fish (5-6lbs only bright spot of the day) came on a football jig. Only caught 2 other keepers to add to that......in 7 hrs of fishing when folks are weighing 20lbs in 3.5 hr tourneys......It's killing me.
FishinCricket Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Purple Worms around the docks overnight during the summer... They really turn on around midnight.. Good luck. cricket.c21.com
Kayser Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I caught a 21 lb top 5 just messing around on some docks in between the crappie and catfish bites. 10" worm, or a BIG jig was the key to success, on a main lake point, at the roll-off to the creek channel, next to the roll-off into the main lake. Anywhere from about 5-25' of water, just work the flat and ledge throwing to the bank and dragging towards the middle of the cove, and they were there. This was midday, too. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
DChance Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Kayser where was that at? sounds a lot like what I was trying to do. Just didn't find points that had fish I guess.
405z06 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 It's funny, because depending on when you have been down, your perception could be completely different. I've only been done 3 times this spring, but all 3 times have been astounded at the quality of the fish. It seems like everything is 16+ inches. I haven't caught anything 5 lb+ yet this spring, but the overall quality of fish has been the best I have ever seen.
Kayser Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Mid lake, on the bluff side. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
OzarkFishman Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 When you say big jigs ... do you mean 9/16 OR more like 3/4 up to a full ounce? Thanks for the tips ... most people are very tight-lipped about bass fishing on LOZ. OzarkFishman
DChance Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 Big jigs to be is 3/4oz. I hear you on folks being tight lipped.
Kayser Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Really don't know- just bought some big football-head jigs a while back and put a 4-5" green pumpkin crawbug on the back of it. Thinking 3/4? WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
OzarkFishman Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Thanks guys. The big trailer is probably as much a reason for the success as the big jig. I am going to put on the biggest trailer I can find in my collection. Thanks again, OzarkFishman
