Members rpike Posted June 22, 2011 Members Posted June 22, 2011 With the exception of the last two weeks. I'v fished two - three days/nights a week since early March. we only had four good days, low water killed it this year. The river is much healthier with regular flows, the fluxuation of big water to no water keeps the river loaded with shad plus it allows the big fish to move up for spawning activity. When the big males came up this year they shut the Keyston dam for two plus weeks in late April at what should have been the best fishing of the year. We still caught some good ones five or six 16- 18lbs and one well over 20 . Oh well, thats why they call it fishing and not catching
Evolution Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I envy you, I wish I lived closer to Tulsa. I have not pulled anything out of the water this year that compares to those in your pictures. Sometimes it is better to have a quality over quantity day, especially when it comes to the fighting power of these fishes.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Nice fish! I'm glad someone has got into them. We went out several times and never could get on them. We r switching our efforts to the Lower Illinois for the remainder of the run if we can get time to get over there. Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
Justin Spencer Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Get down to the NFoW we are catching them in the river, I can tell you right where they are! Members FlyfishinOK Posted June 22, 2011 Members Posted June 22, 2011 Good to see a report where someone got into a few. I was begining to wonder. I've only made it out 3 times this year because of the water situation. Only hooked one good one. I am really disapointed after the good spring we had last year. I lost my striper vision and focused on small stream SM instead.
Members swellcat Posted June 24, 2011 Members Posted June 24, 2011 That's a heap of persistence, rpike. Many thanks for the fine photos and report.
HighPlainsFlyFisher Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Those are some sweet fish , I'd be happy with any one of those fish on the end of my line! Jeff
