This weekend will be my first trip to Bennett spring. I have fished Taney and the White river many times. Would welcome any advise on what flies to try and roughly where. I will only be using fly rods. No lures or bait, just my perfered way to fish. Thanks

Hello,

I will be down there also on Saturday eve and Sunday.

I plan to use scuds and zebra midges mostly. If they are hitting on top I will switch up to a Griffiths gnat or a crackleback.I try to fish above the dam mostly but there is good fishing below as well. It's just hard sometimes to get away from the people. If the water is still really clear you will have to use a 6x or possibly a 7x tippet. If it's hot find the shady spots.

Good luck on your trip.

I pretty much second what Rich said. Anything fairly small with a bead head works pretty well for me. I don't catch as many fish on the dry flies but they sure are fun. If I see any fish rising I'll sometimes switch to a crackleback, elk hair caddis or a humpy.

Good luck,

Greg

Was down there for a few hours last weekend. Had about 15 hits on the humpy, only landed 3 of them. Zebra midges accounted for the other 3 fish I caught. EXTREMELY low strike-to-land %age this trip. Probably below 10%.

If you have sinking or full sinking line go up to the handycap access just below the spring. Get in the pocket just below, cast straight out to the other bank with a green crackleback. Let it float down and across. Push your rod tip down as far as you can and wait, wait, wait, then start stripping the crackle. You are getting deep, to pull them out of the hole. Also do the same just above the little falls just downstream.

Have plenty of white minijigs and drift them in the same spot.

I've caught 50 plus fish in this area including brown's.
