Members standstall Posted August 12, 2006 Members Posted August 12, 2006 HI JUST RETIRED TO THE GREAT STATE OF ARKANSAS. I LOVE FLY FISHING BUT I NEED SOME HELP WHAT ARE THE BEST FLIES FOR THE WHITE RIVER AND THE TAIL WATERS OF LAKE NORFOLK? WE NEVER USED THE WOOLY BOOGER IN WEST VIRGINIA. HOW DO YOU FISH IT ? THANKS IN ADVANCE STANDSTALL
jOrOb Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Scuds and Midges are always very effective. Various San Juan Worms work well also. The hatches are not as prominent, except for Midges. The Wooley is a great all around streamer. I like to cast it and strip it with small strips and pauses. I also like to send it quartering down stream and let it drift until it is directly downstream, then strip it a little to make it rise. If I had to pick a few patterns to start, I would go with: Wilsons Trout Crack Zebra Midge (black, red, olive, brown) San Juan Worm (red, brown, wine) Wooley Bugger (Olive, Black, White, Purple) Of course if you come up to Taney, tan Scuds jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... John Berry Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Welcome to the area. I apologize for taking so long to respond to your posting but I have been guiding non stop for the last few days. The best way to familiarize yourself to fishing in the area is to join the North Arkansas Fly Fishers. We are a Federation of Fly Fishers affiliated club and offer an array of options. We meet on the third tuesday of every month at the Van Matre Senior Citizen Center in Mountain Home at 7:00 PM and you are cordially invited to attend. We have planned fishing outings every month, classes and speakers at every meeting. It is a great place to ask questions or meet a fishing buddy.
