Members L W Little Posted July 19, 2011 Members Posted July 19, 2011 Is anyone catching any bass at LKOZ? My wife's brother's son wants to fish a lot next week. I have been poking around and trying different baits but haven't really been able to get on any consistently. Leonard Little Leawood, KS and 53.5 MM at LKOZ 2005 Champ 198
Kelroy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I just won our tiny club night tourny on the 16th-17th. I put in at Shawnee Bend and we fished from there down to Coffman area. I boated 10 fish (7 over 15") but bear in mind this was over a 12-hour period. Several others only had 2 or 3 fish, and they were out of Larry Gale. To say the bite has slowed down is to put it mildly. Most of my fish came on 5" Chompers hula grub (either Texas rigged or on a football head, black w/ blue flake) or on 7" Power worms (black / blue flake or electric grape). My partner caught several on blk / blue Jewell jig. Some of our fish were out in 10 - 15 feet off main-lake points and into the first 1/3 back, although others were in 2-5 feet in the backs of coves. Bites were few and far between, so don't get your hopes up. My biggest (19.5 inches) came off the side of a dock around 7AM. Good luck, hope this helps.
ryan Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 My father in law and I fished yesterday and had probably a dozen but our five best would have been around 16lbs. We had two nice ones, all our fish came off points and docks in 15-25ft of water on jigs and worms. Im not that familiar with LOZ ive only been up there a couple of times in the spring to fish the OMTT tournaments so I didn't really know where any good brushpiles ect in that water range were. I just looked at the map and tried to figure out where the channel swung in close to the bank, if you find brush or docks in those areas there are probably bass there. As a side note everyone make sure you are releasing your fish immediately after you catch them take your camera with you on the boat and snap your photo immediately! If they ride around in your live well even when you let em go a good majority of them die afterwards!! Good Luck!

I have been poking around and trying different baits but haven't really been able to get on any consistently. I'm catching bass on LOTO daily, 10-15". If you're up before dawn use black to dark blue, very dark green, etc. rubber worms. When the light comes on switch to transparent light green or light brown rubber worms. Use the light colors all day and switch back to the dark colors after sunset. My best luck comes 30 min before dawn or dusk to 30 min after. Poppers will work if you're in a relatively deep, shady cove. But, as far as my luck goes, poppers stopped working 2-3 weeks ago in my relatively shallow, very open cove. Good Luck!
