This is a permanent position located on the Sylamore Ranger District with the district office located in Mountain View, AR, and will also serve the St. Francis Ranger District headquartered in Marianna, AR. The duty station will be at Mountain View, AR. The position is being advertised using an Open Continuous Recruitment (OCR) and the outreach and advertisement will run concurrently. Any candidate who applied to the OCR's in response to the initial outreach will still be considered for the position. The Biologist in this zone position is responsible for providing some or all of the following: 1. Program leadership, including budget formulation and execution, team work, mentoring, and internal and external partnerships. 2. Wildlife specialist support to internal partners (e.g. timber, recreation, fire, special uses, lands, fisheries); 3. Planning and implementation of wildlife projects (with an emphasis on ecosystem management, and landscape scale woodland and glade restoration) 4. Planning and coordination of wildlife partnerships and associated projects; 5. Assistance with a variety of other wildlife initiatives/projects, including FAUNA, WFRP, MIS surveys, preparation of annual Forest Monitoring and Evaluation Report, budget preparation, annual breeding bird census, interpretive/educational projects, and much more. 6. Serves as the Districts' Wildlife Biologist in charge of the wildlife, karst, botanical, fisheries, and range programs. This includes consultation with Fish and Wildlife Service in the management of Threatened and Endangered species. Because the districts are located in the Ozark Highlands and Mississippi Alluvial Plain (Crowley's Ridge) physiographic areas, habitat is provided for a wide variety of species including at least 15 bat species and many neo-tropical birds. At the Sylamore Ranger District, unique habitats created by the Ozark Highlands and karst features create a wide diversity of plant and cave species. The district affords excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, as well as hunting and fishing. The habitats associated with the St. Francis Ranger District are the rich bottomland hardwoods, which afford similar opportunities in wildlife viewing, hunting, fishing as well as outdoor recreation. The Sylamore and St. Francis districts maintain a number of valued partnerships in the performance of their stewardship responsibilities.
