Don Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 My friend and I decided to swing through Roaring river on our way back from the Little Red River. We fished 6:000-8:00PM Sunday. We caught a total of 25 fish. I cought one on a little tan and yellow dry fly and another on a little white dry fly. I do not know what these flies are called. The rest were taken on PP and ugly midges. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Steve Smith Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I fished Roaring River Friday, Sunday and Monday afternoon too. As hot as it was, the fishing was pretty good in the fly only area. I don’t think I did as well as Don… as in this heat; I tend to fish a while and sit in the shade even a while longer. Ginger bead head woolies did well for me. I tried some golden and then some furnace Cracklebacks, but they didn’t want to play on top or stripped much this weekend. The bead-head ginger WB’s did the best, especially where there was some good water flow. I tried some ants as suggested by Tim Homesley, but I guess I need lessons. I talked to several doing well with them, but that wasn’t the case for me. I also stopped down in the park at lunch today, and they are dredging the weed beds out at the upper end [hatchery]. That should improve fishing in Zone One for a while. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Don Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Steve, The pearl and primrose midge that Phil sent in the swap works really well at RR. I use it in the fly only area and I make sure there is some decent drift because it doesn't fare well in slow water. I fish it about 18 to 24 in below the indicator. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
