Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 lake temp 84 water was clear/normal Walleye started off slow, but picked up about 9 am. we ended up with 5 keepers, all but one on jig/crawler in about 18 foot of water. The other walleye, and the first one, came on a minnow. After catching a crappie on the crawler, one of the guys decided to put a minnow on and try for a crappie, then he caught the walleye. The bite was very light, and most of the fish (even the shorts) were caught after feeling some extra weight and setting the hook. Pretty tuff way to catch them but they still got caught so I guess that is good. Seems like the fish are just under 15" or over 17". doesn't seem to be lots of fish getting caught between those, at least by me or anyone I am taking fishing. Crappie are really biting good. I cleaned a total of 26 fish today, with several over 11". Minnows still seem to be working best, but I have talked to people that say they are catching lots on a jig, couldn't prove that by me though. The crappie are coming off brush piles in 15 to 18 foot of water. The bite was good yesterday, but even better this morning. We pulled 8 big keepers off one spot in about 15 minutes. If you refuse to use minnows, then fish slow and as far in the brush as you can get. If you are using minnows, stay just over the top of the brush. Went bass fishing finally and I know now why I miss it so much. The bass are in brush piles in 15 to 20 foot of water and are hitting on large worms texas rigged and worked through the brush. Some big fish are being caught!! Find some good brush piles close to deep water or ditches, or along channels. Darker worms seem to be working better. I use a lighter weight, around a 3/16 oz, and a 6/0 hook. Some pretty good size bass are also chasing shad. I thought they were whites and had one of a guy throw a rooster tail into them. He pulled out about a 4 lb black. Nice fish, and a big surprise on an ultra light. Catfish are still hitting fresh shad on flats lake wide drift fished in 15 foot of water. Again, some pretty good size fish are being caught. White bass are hitting about anything you throw at them when they are surfacing late in the evenings on flats and points. Just look for the fish chasing the shad. Good luck!! Members Kevin Wagner Posted August 16, 2011 Members Posted August 16, 2011 Thanks for the report. I assumed that the Bass are still sitting in those brush piles, but I am having trouble finding the good ones. I'll keep looking!
