lonkm Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Do you pay any attention to the wind direction? east, fish bite least, etc. How about the moon phase, or the baromiter. Rising of falling? Or do you just go and hope for the best?
Mike Worley Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Do you pay any attention to the wind direction? east, fish bite least, etc. How about the moon phase, or the baromiter. Rising of falling? Or do you just go and hope for the best? Q: Whats the best day to go fishing? A: The day you can go! IMHO any wind is better than no wind, but any wind direction other than east or north east is better. A slowly falling barometer is better than rising one. Full or dark moon periods mean fish are more active later in the day.
powerdive Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 No, I don't. Reason: As a weekend warrior, I don't have time for such mumbo jumbo. I fish when I can, and take what comes, and because I'm not out there every day, I have little chance of noticing any direct effects (if there actually are any). Note: In-Fisherman, being in the biz of selling magazines, used to make a big deal of correlating moon phases with trophy catches (this was probably done mostly to support their Master Angler program). It seems that 60% of the trophy fish were caught on the day of the full or new moon, the three days before and after, and the day of the half moon. Wowee! That's the time to fish, huh? Well, do the math. 30 days in a month. 15 days identified (50%). That's not enough of a difference to bother with, at least for this part-timer.
Bird Watcher Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I can go about 2-3 times a week if I want to. If it's just me in the boat, I may take a trip based on what I think are favorable condidtions. If someone is going with me, we just go when the schedule allows. Does it make a difference? maybe, maybe not. Sometimes I think it plays more to my own confidence than anything. Kind of like picking up your favorite bait on your favorite rod. Somedays I just have a feeling they will bite, but I'll still go on days I don't think they will just to be sure.
rangerman Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I always schedule vacay around the new moon. Works for me very well. I definitely hate east/northeast winds. And give me a falling barometer any day of the week.
junkman Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Of all the thousands of times I have went fishing, I can count on one hand the times it was a productive day with a east wind. Doesn't keep me from going, but I know it wont be productive.
