Members 3inonegod Posted August 28, 2011 Members Posted August 28, 2011 I was fishing in my kayak last Saturday and caught what I know was my largest bass ever caught. I did not have a scale with me so improvised. I cut my line for length and girth. The length of the bass was 26" and the girth was 16.25". If any of you have an idea of the weight that would be great. I released the fish and am wanting to get a mount of it. Thanks,
rps Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I put your numbers in the calculator at Bass Resource and the result was 10.9. Good heavens, even if off by 9/10 of a pound, it is a monster fish!
Members Chunk Rock Posted August 28, 2011 Members Posted August 28, 2011 i would say a little over 9 lbs. nice catch,,, any pics?
Members timr0123 Posted August 29, 2011 Members Posted August 29, 2011 Just for instance. The fish I'm holding in my profile pic was 27" long and 19" around. She weighed 10 even according to my Berkley digital scales and my Bass Pro Shops spring type scales. According to Bass Resource's calculations, she would have weighed 13.57. I'd like to go by the Resource's figures, but the scales don't lie.
Guest Buck Creek Mike Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I would go by what the others said for weight, but anytime someone has a 26" bass I consider that above and beyond your run of the mill lunker! Nice job.
junkman Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I would imagine it made for a great day. Always when you wench in a lunker of that caliber, it puts a good feeling within and gives you a great story to repeat for years to come.
MstStudent10 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Awesome fish!!! For comparison, this Spring in TX I caught a "Florida Strain" bass that was 26" even with a 19" girth. She weighed 10.75 lbs on an exact digital scale. This was pre-spawn also and she had eggs, and like I said, a FL strain. With yours a Northern strain and a girth of 16.25 with no eggs, I'd say Chunk Rock is prolly pretty close with the guess of around 9 lbs... Had you caught her in late winter/early spring when she was a fatty and had eggs, I'd bet you would have joined the Double Digit club. That is a great catch man!! Set the hook first, ask questions later...
