Patrick M Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I am not sure. I am hoping to hit lake springfield this evening around 5:45 or 6:00 hopefully the wind will not be bad at that time. if not tonight i am gonna hit it 1 of the next 2 days or both. take advantage of this nice weather. have they been biting?
Members Matt King Posted September 5, 2011 Author Members Posted September 5, 2011 I havent gotten a chance to get out there to enjoy the nicer weather. Back when it was hot they were still biting, mostly on soft plastics dragged real slow. Im gonna take a drive down on the outer road n see what the water looks like. Im in a kayak so i know ill be fine, my buddies in a canoe tho so he'll prob have to walk quite a bit -Matt
Patrick M Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 im in a 14 foot boat witha 5 hp briggs on it. i can make it past 60 but dont know how far i can venture up much further. i usually have luck with plastics. i am getting some jigs made for me so i will have to try those next week. learning to bass fish this year has been fun.
Daveinozark Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I hit springfield lake this morning. Went around the downed tree by the 60 freeway. Caught a lm there on a zara spook puppy. the water is still very warm. not much action in that area though. Seems like several carp have take over that area. I went over to the spillway and broke that lure off on an average sized lm. Surprised it broke that easily, the front hook came out should get better after a week of low temps
Patrick M Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 where were the carp? i like to catch some every now and then
Members CheddaFishin Posted September 5, 2011 Members Posted September 5, 2011 Just did a float last night; From Southwood to Crieghton and camped along the banks. We paddled up no problem in kayaks as it does get shallow a little after you pass hwy 60. We had to take out a few spots due to dragging. Water is indeed still warm and there are a couple trees down but easy to get around. Fishing was just average for us. Lots of trash that we found and did a little clean up as we fished along. We floated back down to Southwood around 6am this morning. So it can be done, but I would suggest a kayak. Good luck!
OzarkFishman Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Finally got a few hours in the other night. Ended the trip with 4 fish (2 keepers) and one big soft shell turtle on a senko. The fish were all caught on a jig. OzarkFishman
Daveinozark Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 yeah the wind makes it tough but I like to use spinnerbaits most of the time anyways. Except this time I was on a mission to catch fish on the spook jr. walking the dog. That was hard to throw at times and when the water got choppy I was probably wasting time. I saw carp near that walkway bridge that's between the 2 freeways. There's some slack water over there and I kept seeing them jump. I think I'll try the lakehouse section of the lake this weekend and see if there's any bass left there. When I go, I have to sneak out of the house in the mornings and only fish for a few hours or until the wife calls
