Dylan Cluver Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 fly fishing taneycomo and just wondering what size pound test i should be using as tippet for nighttime fly fishing No one gripes about obese fish.
Danoinark Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 At night I use 8 to 10 lb straight mono as a leader and tippet. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Members RippinLips Posted November 28, 2011 Members Posted November 28, 2011 It really depends on what you use try 5x to 7x tippet
Al Agnew Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 You don't need light tippet at night. Unless you're fishing very small flies, which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me for night fishing, you surely wouldn't need 5X-7X. If you're fishing streamers, I wouldn't go lighter than 3X. I'm a firm believer that you match tippet to flies more than to water conditions. In very clear water during the day, I might go as light as 6X, but even then I'll usually be using 4X-5X fluoro unless I'm using size 20 or smaller nymphs or size 16 or smaller dries. If I'm throwing streamers in daylight, maybe 4X fluoro on very clear water...but I seldom use streamers when it's bright daylight and very clear water.
