We're leaving for Az at sundown today, 9/16.(from N. TX). "Gonna ketch sum o' them mounting trouts", in the White Mounains rim country. Will try for the alusive Apache trout, and catch many rainbows and browns from the lakes and Little Colorado River. A week at Pinetop, and at least one night at Greer.

May go into Colorado from there.

Be back ................whenever.

Will post a report ............whenever.

The Az trip was great....started off with a bang. My son and i both caught our limit (6) on the first day and had a wonderful trout dinner that night. Caught them at a small stream north of Showlow, AZ.

I failed in my attempt to catch an apache trout :serious-business: , but my son caught one :have-a-nice-day: .

I caught 3 rainbow the last day, 18 to 20 inches, at Sunrise Lake :goodjob: .

All in all it was a good trip.

Pictures later.

I failed to get one. post-11883-1318961990734_thumb.jpg <<This was our supper the night after our first day of fishing.

This trip marked an end of an era for me and trout fishing. It became obvious that my physical challenges would not permit me to try this trip again. Before we left AZ i gave all my fishing gear to my son, for him and my grandson to use. After 75 years of fishing, I've decided it is time to "hang it up". My future trips will be watching them and taking pictures....from the pickup.

But, i am not, nor will I ever complain....God has blessed me with many years of good fishing in some of the most beautiful places on earth, that He created. And....you are likely to become associated with the best men on earth as you fish, as you go outdoors to do it, and talk about it, and brag about it, and sometimes fibalittle about it, and share it with your friends and loved ones.

Those of you who enjoy our sport.....don't ever take it for granted. Fishing is one of those pleasures we must appreciate for the places and things it allows us to enjoy.

Take a kid.

Best of luck to all, and God bless you and yours,

Chambug

I never said it would be easy. Maybe next year my son will back the pickup up to a good spot so I can fish off the tailgate. I feel confident that somehow, someday, I'll have the opportunity to hook into one. If and when I do, you will CERTAINLY HEAR ABOUT IT!!!!!

OK Keep this under your hat...ha as I post it on the Ozark forum......

As you leave Horseshoe Cieniga Lake on the WMAT resv -- you go east on Hwy 260 --heading to Greer. About 2 miles east of the lake....you'll be going uphill in an aspen grove....at maker 334 (slight left curve of the Hwy) you'll see a stop sign and a gravel road on your right. Follow this road for about a mile it crosses the river. Downstream you can use what ever you want...bait..spinners...your call. This is a stocking spot for WMAT always has Apache in this nice little hole just under the culverts that go under the road....easy access----- fun fish. Then in Show Low you can fish Spring Creek by the hatchery out by the airport...Oct --April C&R with some brood stock Apaches, The rest of the year just stockers. Make another trip before giving up on the Apaches

Good information, AZ Trout! Next time I go to Az I may have to borrow my gear from my son and try it. I really am not inclined to give up on the Apache....the thought of catching one is creating riffles and eddies and stong currents in my blood flow. My "peacemaker" may have to work extra hard.

Thanks for the info!
