OK, next time I see a gar surfacing on the river, I will be ready. The lure was simple to make, I added eyes to give it a little personality, and wet it weights about 1/2 oz. so I didn't add any weight and it's about 4 in. long. I was told to cast pass the gar and reel it by them slowly as you twitch it. Any more suggestions?

Make sure your drag is set (or backing knot tied securely) and hold on!!!

Oh, and when they breach hold your rod tip down, they shake hard!!

Don't try to set the "hook". I know it sounds silly, but it is hard not to react. It has been many decades since I fished for them on Grand, but I seem to recall that we gave them some slack for a few seconds before tightening up on them.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
