Trout Commander Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 How many first time anglers go and get skunked and never go back? One weekend there will be ten fisherman and the next there will be one. As soon as some pics of big browns being caught below Taney and the White the crowd at Crane will die down. Yeah, all 9 of the guys I saw got skunked and obviously made the drive over from Taney. Must've been running water. Sorry fellas. Like I said, I'm so busy with school I barely have time to go out there, so I wouldn't really know about the crowd situation. Just wanted to post because there wasn't much activity on the board and I happen to make the vid for work. I regret posting in the main forum I suppose now. Meh, I wouldn't sweat it too bad. You have to read my posts with the fact that I'm an asshole in mind. Posting in a more general forum with a heading of "Stream X Wild Trout" might be cool though. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Trout Commander Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I also forgot to mention that the video you made is awesome. My bad. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Members burninworm Posted September 27, 2011 Members Posted September 27, 2011 Well, I wasn't there Saturday, but I am a douchebag.... LOL. I definitely don't know what I'm doing, if that's the only criteria. I feel what you are saying, though TC. People wading a bunch through that tiny stream, making all kinds of noise, overfishing a spot. I don't mind fishing around others in wild areas as long as they follow a few rules: 1. Follow all the rules and regulations for the water we are fishing... 2. Keep all nonessential communications to a minimum. (People who have to fish right next to you and talk a bunch= douchebags. A little friendly discussion is cool for no more than a minute, but save the stories for the car ride, the store or back at camp.) 3. Leave the resource better than they found it. Leave nothing you brought with you. Pick up trash, report problems to the appropriate agency, pinch down your barbs, release fish quickly etc. I know there are other things we could all do to be less douchebaggy? But these few are so simple to do, yet so many people fail to do them, instead of approaching a special place like crane, without stewardship in mind. -Worm

Not knowing how to fish somewhere you never have fished before doesn't make you a db. It's a lack of common sense that is the qualification in most cases. troutbum479 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 You can find the biggest case of douchebaggery at Taney. If only Taney was in the middle of BFE. arkmoflyfishing.blogspot.com http://okietroutbum.blogspot.com/
Aaron J Scott Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Speaking of douchebaggery, has anyone noticed the copious amount of condom wrappers at the upper access parking lot? I usually keep a few trash bags in my car to pick up the area, but I don't usually pack rubber gloves. Perhaps I should start doing that. Hmm ... McClouds = aphrodisiac? Save Scratch, Raise Cash. Fish Itch!

RSBreth Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 The upper access is a well known "scenic lookout" for area adolescents. Frankly - I'm amazed there are used condoms with common "16 and pregnant" population around here. I wouldn't worry too much about "advertising" that there are trout in Crane - it's been on many "100 greatest creeks" and similar lists before - the crowd comes soon after, gets a skunked-out butt spanking, and goes back to wherever they came from. Very good video, BTW. Good work.
