I think that you are making a wise choice when it comes to the rod weight a 9'5wt is a great choice because it can be used for a lot of diffrent styles of fishing both warm and coldwater.

One thing that you might consider is the TFO signature series. The rod is $89, a nice Okuma reel with line would be $59 for a toatl of $149.00. The rods are great and cast very easy and handle fish great. Plus the big advantage with the TFO rod is that they have a LIFETIME WARRINTY on them no questions asked. The repair charge is $20.00. The 4pc Hobbs Creek is $106 and the 2 pc is $96 plus tax. If you break that rod you are out the $96 or the $106. I did call and ask about their warrinty and they said they do not carry a no fault warrinty with the rods. They only have a 1 year warrinty if it is a manufactures defect. Just food for thought, I wish you luck in finding and buying a new rod and reel.

If you don't mind let us know what you get and how it works out for you.

When I started fly fishing again about 4 years ago(after about a 10 year hiatus) I bought an SA fly rod and reel from Walmart (about $50 tota). It was decent but not even close to the quality of the Bass Pro outfit you are thinking about. It was when I stepped up to a good rod that I really started to enjoy it. The point being that you can go too cheap even when you are just starting out.
