Skeeter ZX190 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Got on the water around 9:00 a.m. and fished until 4:00 p.m. in the dam area. Mainly fished the main lake points. Went back into some of the larger coves, but didn't seem to be many fish back there. Caught around 30 bass with all but 2 coming on a Zell Pop. Had some pretty vicious strikes. All of them had the dreaded eye tail disease, but several of them were over 14 inches and gave a pretty good fight. Caught all 3 species, largemouth, smallmouth, and kentucky. Water temp was 70 degrees. All in all a really beautiful day.

Walcrabass Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Skeeter, Did you try any "Bottom" Fishing under those 14 inchers??? Jig, Worm, Drop Shot, Carolina with Lizards etc??? It seems like to me when the weather changes (Lake Cooling etc.)that the small ones always react first and the bigger ones are close by but not on the same pattern. Just curious. Sounds like the dam area has been pretty good for the last couple of weeks. I would also like to know what a Zell Pop is because I top water fish a lot using Rebel Poppers up to 1 oz. The 1 oz. are a special order now and only from one place that has an exclusive. The cool thing is that they are hand painted and the guy does a great job.
Skeeter ZX190 Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 A Zell Pop is a higher end version of a Pop-R. Costs $10. It is an Xcaliber bait I picked up at Bass pro. I would like to find a Yellow Magic, but Bass Pro doesn't sell them and I don't know if anyone in the KC area sells them. I didn't spend much time experimenting with other baits. I'm hard headed that way. I just love fishing topwater and was doing OK even though they were short fish.

The last one I bought was last fall, but maybe they have stopped stocking them

MstStudent10 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 This past summer Bass Pro Shops in Springfield carried yellow magic poppers. Not the best color selection thou. Set the hook first, ask questions later...
