After being pelted by grasshoppers everywhere I went yesterday I decided to try throwing one right before dark last night. Caddis flies were hatching everywhere, and like usual very few fish were surfacing. In just under an hour of fishing I managed one brown, one rainbow, and a shiner, while only missing one other trout. Not bad, and lots of fun, although I wet waded and nearly froze to death as dark approached.

Nice, never thought I'd see this on the NFOW. Probably too late by the time we get down there in less than two weeks, not that I'm counting or anything...:)

Should still be some hoppers around, think I'll try again tonight with a tiny dropper under my hopper and see if I can catch a few more fish. I think it helps the river is low, I'm fishing fairly shallow fast moving water.

Only had one take tonight and missed it, nearly stepped on a huge rainbow that was on the wrong side of the river, oh and I did catch a big shiner on my dropper.

It would be worth it to take along a few hoppers, chernobyls, and chubbies, the flies, not what everyone's thinking... :dizzy:

So if a fish is following/chasing the fly without taking it, would that fish be classified as a "Chubbie Chaser".

I'm so old that my 26 yr. old had to tell me two definitions of 'chubby.' And we used to say, "You can have her chubby cousin.." This is the chubby we should recognize. Course, there were probably some 'chubby chasers' throughout the river this summer...just sayin'...

Was considering my usual trip to the North Fork, couple of weeks from now. It looks really low, how is the fishing?

Just got back from a four day trip the river is very low and very clear and the fishing was below average but not terrible. Still seems like a summertime bite.

Agreed. The bite is still very much like a summer-time bite.....except the browns are moving and not in the usual summer-time holds quite as much.
