Rusty Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I am having trouble with the fluoro tippet cutting the mono leader at the knot connection. I was using the improved clinch and switched to the clinch knot and had better success. But, is there a 100% connection knot for the two. I haven't tried a loop connection, but I am not sure if it will work at all. Any suggestions?
gonefishin Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 That is a problem I havent heard of. What weight lines are you using? I use a blood knot to tie mine. I havent had any problems. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Rusty Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 Blood Knot has not been tried yet. I will give it a shot. I have been using Orvis 9ft 6X tapered mono and then attaching 7X Frog hair fluoro. Sometimes when I set the hook, or bringing fish to hand the line breaks at the mono connection. The loop, on the mono leader is cut where it connects to the fluoro. The knot is still there, its just cut in the loop.
Greg Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Russ I use fluoro tippet and a mono leader as well. I always use the double surgeons knot. Much quicker than the blood knot. Luke Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 The Seaguar guys have a simple fluoro to mono knot that they call a Seaguar Knot. It works for me. --Luke
Danoinark Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I always use a loop to loop from mono to fluro. Never had a problem..I use a surgeons know for adding more tippet....Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
motroutbum Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 If you are using a 9ft 6x leader, you need to clip off about 1.5 feet of the end of the leader. when you tie on the frog hair, it replaces the 6x portion you cut off and so you would add 3 ft of frog hair to compensate. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
mizzouflyfisher Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I always attach fluoro to mono that is 2 sizes larger. That prevents the cutting for the most part. It's probably only an issue when you are using light tippets, say 6x or 7x. I usually buy 9 ft. 4x or 5x leaders and then add 2-3 ft of tippet. Rarely do I ever fish a leader in MO without adding tippet. Mizzouflyfisher
Rusty Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 I really do appreciate all the replys to this topic. If I just would have used some common sense on this it would have been easy. Thanks again.
Jim Elam Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Russ I use fluoro tippet and a mono leader as well. I always use the double surgeons knot. Much quicker than the blood knot. I have not had any problems Greg Second that. Much more reliable than the blood knot.
