BrianK Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Anyone with any reports on the lower river for smallies? Looking at Two Rivers to Powder Mill or Powder mill to Roberts Field area? I've never been below PowderMill/Owls Bend. Is there really access somewhere at the end of Hwy NN? The MDC map online says there is access at Roberts Field (camp and access??)Is it safe to leave a truck there overnite. Just trying to find out from someone who's been there. Anyone recommend one stretch over another for a 1 or 2 day float? Any help appreciated. thanks, Brian
Kicknbass Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I've never heard of Roberts Field. But I know there is a lot of campers at the end of NN. This is near the mouth of Rocky Creek. Powdermill to Van Bueran would be an easy 2 day float or two rivers to Van Bueran would be achevable as well, it would be long. Lots of jet boats in the area so be prepared. 2 rivers to powdermill would be a fairly easy one day float and 2 rivers to Log yard could be done in a day. It would be a very easy 2 day float. If I was to do a 2 day float, I would absolutely camp out on the river. There are lots of gravel bars available to camp on. I haven't been on the river since the 4th of july weekend, but would think that the fishing would be about the same. soft plastics fished in deep water w/ structure and flow is were the fish will be found. BrianK Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 thanks. yeah, i saw your Jul 4th report. looked good. Not sure of that name either but do you know if there is river access down at the end of NN/ near Rocky Ck.... to take out if we go Powdermill down. I presume the jetboats are thickest below Blue spring. Do they venture above that very much??
Al Agnew Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I've never driven into the Roberts Field area, but Chuck Tryon's book says there is access and even a boat ramp there. According to him, the ramp is just a few hundred feet above the mouth of Rocky Creek.
BrianK Posted September 5, 2006 Author Posted September 5, 2006 I've got a copy around here somewhere. will have to dig it out. Sort of like a book of treasure maps. thanks
Kicknbass Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 There are quite a few boats launch at Rocky Creek. This can be accessed by NN. I launch at Logyard and motor up to above rocky on most trips. Lots of Jet boats on the weekends. Now that labor day is over. This will minimize quite a bit. If your floating and launching at powdermill, the float to log yard is easy. Only about 7 miles. Good luck. " Too many hobbies to work" - "Must work to eat and play"
